Baikal lake summer sightseeing 3 days
I think this three days sightseeing tour to Baikal lake is perfect for guests who are short in time. It includes visit to ethnographical museum of wooden architecture " Taltsy", ski lift to observation point of Cherskiy rock in Listvyanka, cruise on the lake to Circum-Baikal railway (old part of Transsiberian railway), Baikal museum with aquarium of Baikal seal - Nerpa and sightseeing Irkutsk (with visiting Decembrists' museum on your demand). Short itinerary:
Day 1. Arrival to Irkutsk in the
morning. Transfer to Listvyanka. Taltsy museum. Lunch with tasting the local
cuisine. Ski lift to observation platform of Cherskiy rock.
Day 2. Sightseeing Listvyanka. Baikal museum. Cruise to Circum-Baikal
railway.
Day 3. Transfer to Irkutsk. Sightseeing Irkutsk. The Decembrist’s museum.

1. (20.08.16). Arrival to Irkutsk. Transfer to Listvyanka, Taltsy museum.
Cherskiy rock. Accommodation in hotel
Welcome to Siberia! Arrival at Irkutsk airport in the morning. Transfer
to the hotel, time for rest after the flight. At 10 (or 12am) Transfer to
Listvyanka. On the 47th km of Baikal highway you will visit the open
air Taltsy museum of wooden architecture which is located at the picturesque
shore of Angara river. It will give you an idea of life of Siberians from 16-20th
century. Lunch with tasting the dishes of local cuisine. In Listvyanka you will
visit the Cherskiy rock which will give you an amazing view to Port Baikal on
the opposite shore and Angara river outflow. The ski lift will bring you to the
top of the hill with and you may walk (or ride the ski lift) back to the car. Accommodation
in Listvyanka, hotel 4*, twin/double rooms. Dinner. (-, L, -).
Day
2. (21.08.16) Baikal museum. Cruise to
Circum-Baikal railway.
In the morning you will visit Baikal museum where you can get
familiar with Baikal nature, geological structure, fauna and flora. Aquarium
with alive Baikal seal - Nerpa, imitational diving to the bottom of Baikal,
fish exponents will give you an idea of how unique the lake is. Lunch. After
lunch you will have a cruise over the clear and transparent waters of Baikal
lake. You will visit the Circum-Baikal railway – the old part of Transsib
railway and walk to one of its tunnels.. It is an architectural-landscape
reserve, where numerous engineer constructions are located at the 80-km
shoreline of Baikal. Before revolution this part of Transsiberian railway was
called “The golden buckle of Russian steel belt” due to enormous costs spent on
its construction. To get there is the same as to make a time journey 100 years
back, everything is preserved the same way it used to be. Please, don’t forget
warm clothes for the cruise part.
After return to Listvyanka you may visit
the fish and souvenir market where locals smoke and sell famous Baikal fish - “Omul”
and grayling.
Return to the hotel. Dinner. (B, L, D).
Day 3 (22.08.16) Transfer to Irkutsk. Sightseeing. Decembrists
museum.
Morning transfer back to Irkutsk. Today you will feel the atmosphere
of Irkutsk - the capital of Eastern Siberia. It is a small Russian city with
more than 355 years old history, located on the bank of Angara river, 70 km
away from Baikal Lake. Irkutsk used to be wooden in the past. Even nowadays it
is one of not many Siberian cities which preserved its wooden outlook. The city
has mysterious charm: quiet shady streets with different carved decorations get
on nowadays with many-storied modern buildings. Famous Russian writer Anton
Chekhov compared Irkutsk to Paris. He said: “As England created London and
France - Paris, the same Siberia created Irkutsk”. You’ll visit the historical
heart of Irkutsk - the place where it was founded in 1661 and where the
fortress was built at the shore of Angara river. You’ll see the oldest stone
structure in Irkutsk - the church of the Saviour, visit the war memorial with
an eternal flame which burns in the memory of Siberians fought in the World War
II, walk along the streets to the embankment of Angara river. After lunch you
will visit the Decembrist museum which will give you a little glimpse into the
past with fascinating story. Accommodation in hotel. (B, L, D).
Day 4. (23.08.16). Departure
Transfer to the train station.
